Student Art in Brandenburg – a workshop for young creatives

Once a year, the Bund Deutscher Kunsterzieher (Federation of German Art Educators, or BDK) undertakes a pupil development seminar. The workshop – Schülerkunst in Brandenburg – (Student Art in Brandenburg) is aimed at school students who show a special talent and interest in art lessons. 15–20 candidates will be selected from the students by a jury, and may then participate in the workshop. Under the direction of a number of BDK members and local artists, a day-long "art creation" will take place, something that is not normally possible in schools due to limited space and time.

To communicate this special offer effectively, the BDK commissioned us to create a thematic image and various campaign media. It was important to find a design that appeals to both students and teachers in order to communicate the workshop’s character, while being able to be flexibly applied to different formats.

The students should be able to let off steam and approach the day with no reservations using color, dirt, structures and a variety of materials. Because of this, colorful textures in a kaleidoscope of overlays are the basic foundation of our design, connoting a workshop atmosphere in a bold and eye-catching manner. Posters are aimed at both students and teachers, whilst flyers, letters and documents specifically address respective target groups. We have also developed a typographic logo especially for "Student Art in Brandenburg".
